Database Analyst (SQL)
The City of Cedar Rapids is currently recruiting for a Database Analyst (SQL) in the Information Technology Department. This position administers and supports enterprise database management for city-wide system environments. This position also defines, creates, maintains and monitors database related components for application systems.. The work schedule for this position is 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. The annual salary range for this position is $56,576 to $77,667.

Job duties for this position include (but are not limited to):
- Reviews database application system design to ensure feasibility, accuracy, efficiency and adherence to technical standards
- Installs server based data management systems
- Creates the database definition and other related database components
- Provides technical assistance to professional staff in the development and testing of database applications
- Monitors the performance and integrity of functioning database systems and applications
- Coordinates and/or performs maintenance on functioning application database files
- Computes space requirements for application database files
- Coordinates the reorganization or restructuring of application databases
- Identifies, evaluates and makes recommendations to management concerning problems or issues in the database environments
- Performs database problem analysis
- Supports the recoveries of database files
- Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies, procedures and safety practices
This position requires:
- Valid Iowa Driver’s License
- May be required to obtain Iowa NCIC certification based on work assignment
- Thorough knowledge of database design and integration techniques
- Thorough knowledge of systems analytical practices and procedures
- Thorough knowledge of the principles of computer programming and of adapting computer processing techniques to meet end-user needs
- Thorough knowledge of relational databases and object technologies
- Thorough knowledge of database software
- Thorough knowledge SQL database administration
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to train and instruct others, including systems and user-support personnel
- Ability to develop and enforce database standards and database security
- Ability to evaluate vendor software for compatibility with city-wide databases
- Ability to analyze information requirements and needs, identify problems, provide technical advice and consultation, and insure efficient database utilization
- Ability to work cooperatively and to maintain effective working relationships to accomplish job responsibilities
- Ability to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology
Required Experience:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in a major or specialization of computer science or closely related field;
andConsiderable experience in computer programming, systems analysis and/or computer operations and SQL database administration;
or Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
