Utility Water Quality Specialist
The City of Cedar Rapids is currently
recruiting for Utilities Water Quality Specialist. This
position provides diverse water quality monitoring services,
regulatory research for water sources, water distribution
and water use. Responds to customer questions or complaints,
regulatory inquires pertaining to water quality issues. This
is a salaried position reporting to the Utilities
Environmental Manager. The current salary range is $39,020
to $53,601 per year based on education and experience.
This position requires:
- Knowledge of chemistry with emphasis on instrumental analysis and requires substantive working knowledge and proficiency in microbiological testing procedures for potable water
- Knowledge of water quality parameters and respective protocols for analytical/physical measurements, monitoring requirements, reporting practices/frequencies and other aspects stipulated under the National Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA)
- Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures, proper use of safety equipment, right to know laws, CPR and First Aid
- Proficiency in mathematical computations and statistical applications appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities
- Ability to operate personal computers using program applications appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities
- Ability to work under general supervision and exercise some discretion under specific work situations
- Ability to follow directives and adhere to work schedule and related assignments
- Ability to prepare accurate and reliable written analytical reports
- Ability to work cooperatively and to maintain effective working relationships to accomplish job responsibilities
- Ability to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology
- Ingenuity and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks.
Required Experience/Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in a science discipline, biology/microbiology or environmental engineering college level program with emphasis on water quality aspects preferred; and some experience in basic and advanced water quality research in the area of environmental monitoring and water testing protocols. Individuals with a combination of education and experience who can perform the required job functions will also be considered.
