When an arsonist strikes, the entire community may suffer. In addition to possible loss of life, the economic losses can include:

  • Loss of jobs, with resulting loss of income
  • Medical cost to the injured
  • Expense to fire services in fighting and investigating the crime
  • Resulting increase in property taxes and insurance premiums
  • Blighted areas where buildings once stood

Fight Back!
With the establishing of the ARSON HOTLINE and the $15,000 Reward Fund, now there is an effective way to fight back. You may be the one person who can supply valuable information needed to convict an arsonist. Do not hesitate to contact local authorities or use the ARSON HOTLINE if you think you can help.

Arson Hotline
A toll-free ARSON HOTLINE telephone has been established in the State Fire Marshal’s Office in Des Moines. The phone number is: 1-800-532-1459

Reward Fund
A $15,000 Reward Fund has been set up on a permanent basis. Cash rewards will be offered from the fund, created by contributions from the insurance industry in Iowa that are intended to encourage citizens to provide information of anyone responsible for deliberately setting a fire. You will not have to identify yourself. Anonymous telephone call will be eligible for receiving cash rewards through a special numbers identification code.
