For your convenience, tenant background check services for landlords are now being offered.
Chapter 29 mandates that Landlord Business Permit Holders perform background checks on all persons 18 years of age or older who newly occupy a rental unit after July 1, 2013, whether or not the person(s) has signed a lease.
i. A report of activity from Iowa Courts Online.
ii. A report from the Iowa Sex Offender Registry and the National Sex Offender Registry website maintained by the US Department of Justice.
Landlords are encouraged but not required to obtain additional background information.
The City of Cedar Rapids has partnered with C4 Operations to offer a low-cost, comprehensive background check report for Landlord Business Permit Holders. The report includes a 50 state background check, including a check of the National Sex Offender Registry and terrorist database, State of Iowa county criminal search, local Cedar Rapids arrests, and a check for State of Iowa warrants. Background checks are being offered starting at $15.50 for Landlord Business Permit Holders.
