Members of the Police Department's Special Response Team prepare to make entry through a door as part of a training exercise. The Cedar Rapids Police Special Response Team (SRT) consists of members of the Police Department who have received special training in firearms and defensive tactics.  They are called upon to assist the department during high-risk search warrants, as well as cases where individuals have barricaded themselves in a building and weapons are known to be present.  SRT is also deployed to hostage situations and used for dignitary protection.

The goal of SRT is to ensure a safe, non-violent resolution to these situations.

SRT members have full-time assignments in the various divisions of the Police Department.

SRT would respond to an active shooter incident.  In response to tragic shooting incidents that have occurred throughout the country, the Cedar Rapids Police Department wants to educate the public on how to prepare for such an event. The Power Point Presentation below is intended to educate individuals on what to look for and how the Cedar Rapids Police Department will respond. Although there is no guarantee that an incident could not happen in our community, we can reduce our chances by working together to prepare.
