Police

The reasons for towing vehicles range from retrieving an abandoned vehicle to traffic accidents to arrests. There are still cases in which vehicles may be towed/impounded, including if the vehicle is a safety hazard; the vehicle is needed for evidence in a hit-and-run or some other traffic accident; a street storage violation; a violation of Proof of Liability Insurance, Failure to Provide Proof of Ownership, Operation without Registration, Fraudulent Use of Registration, or False Use of Registration; or the vehicle needs to be impounded for a criminal investigation.  In addition, an officer could seek a warrant to impound depending on circumstances of the incident.

It is recommended that owners of towed/impounded vehicles contact the Cedar Rapids Police Department, Property Division, for more information.
