Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs) are part of the NPDES General Permitting that authorizes stormwater discharges from construction activities with a total land disturbance of an acre or greater to discharge to surface waters or a municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4). An SWPPP is required to identify and describe potential sources of pollution that may affect stormwater quality discharges from the site and all pollution control measures that will be implemented on-site to control stormwater discharge pollution.

Post Construction Stormwater Management
New development often means an increase of impervious surfaces, resulting in an increase in stormwater runoff. There are many practices that can be integrated into new development design which will result in improved water quality, less flooding, and an overall decrease in polluted stormwater runoff in Cedar Rapids. All SWPPPs are required to include a description of post-construction stormwater management measures to be installed during construction that will be used to control pollution in stormwater discharges after construction is completed.
