Community Photos Sought for Gallery Installation

The Cedar Rapids community is invited to submit photos that capture the essence of Cedar Rapids’ buildings, landmarks, or neighborhoods for inclusion in an art installation called Portraits of Iowa. The gallery of community-submitted photography will be included in an exhibit permanently installed at the U.S. Cellular Center by artist John Fleming. The installation is scheduled to be unveiled fall 2020.

Photos are encouraged to capture a local’s perspective that reflects the essence of Cedar Rapids, celebrating the everyday, ordinary details of places and things, rather than the more obvious iconic Cedar Rapids’ landmarks. All residents of all photography skill-sets are encouraged to participate.

How to Submit Photos

  • Submit photos online at www.portraits-of-iowa.com.
  • Residents may submit up to five photos
  • Color images, 2 MB max per image is required
  • Please avoid close-up portraits of people
  • Deadline to submit photos is Friday, July 10, 2020

Selected photos will be cropped and adjusted for inclusion in the 36-foot-tall Portraits of Iowa installation. Photos will be printed on clear acrylic sheets varying in size from eight inches to 18 inches.

About the Art Installation
In September of 2020, artist John Fleming and the City of Cedar Rapids Visual Arts Commission will install Portraits of Iowa inside the U.S. Cellular Center.
