Fire Department Recognizes Nine Firefighters for Successfully Completing Probationary Year of Service

September 30, 2020

The Cedar Rapids Fire Department is honoring nine firefighters for completing one year of service.  Nathan Cruchelow, Sean Dietrich, Justin Gibbs, Trevor Levins, Cody Oberfoell, Brady Petersen, Casey Schares, Ricardo Vazquez, and Lane Zahourek will receive firefighter badges, service/name pins, and yellow fire helmets to celebrate their successful completion of their probationary year.

Due to COVID-19, the Fire Department is unable to hold a ceremony to honor these firefighters, however we would like to publicly recognize these firefighters for their accomplishment.

The first year in the fire service is considered a probationary period and the firefighters must successfully complete a training academy, as well as skills, examinations and on-the-job training

throughout the year.  The nine probationary firefighters were hired on September 30, 2019.
