Police Arrest 3 Suspects and Recover 2 Stolen Handguns

On Saturday, October 24 at 5:25 p.m. officers attempted to stop a vehicle that had driven through a stop sign at 11th Street and 22nd Avenue SW.  During the traffic stop, an individual in the vehicle exited the front passenger seat and began running on foot.  An officer engaged in a foot pursuit, and with the assistance of another officer, was able to apprehend the suspect in the backyard of a residence in the 900 block of 19th Avenue SW.  The suspect was identified as Donta Payne Underwood, DOB/03-14-2002, age 18.  Underwood was found in possession of a stolen handgun, ammunition, and marijuana.  The handgun had been reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle that was parked on Bezdek Drive NW on June 10, 2020.  

Police officers were able to locate and stop the suspect vehicle at 5:29 p.m. in the 1100 block of 21st Avenue SW.  Two suspects were in the vehicle and identified as Torrence Miqule Warr, DOB/06-29-2002, age 18, and Jentry Deraine Chambers, DOB/06-03-2000, age 20.  A magazine with bullets and marijuana were found in the possession of Chambers.    

Chambers was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance-Marijuana, Trafficking in Stolen Weapons, Carrying Weapons, Manner of Conveyance-Loaded Gun, Attempt to Elude, and Failure to Obey Traffic Control Device.  Chambers had an AR-15 rifle uncased in the trunk of the vehicle with a magazine inserted.  During a subsequent interview with officers, Chambers admitted to discarding a handgun from the vehicle into an alleyway.  The handgun was recovered by officers in an alleyway in approximately the 1100 block of 21st Avenue SW. The handgun was reported stolen on October 12, 2020 from an unlocked vehicle parked in residential driveway on 34th Street NE. 

Warr was arrested for Trafficking in Stolen Weapons and Carrying Weapons. 

Underwood was arrested for two counts of Carrying Concealed Weapons and Trafficking Stolen Weapons, Possession of a Controlled Substance-Marijuana, and Interference with Official Acts with a Firearm. 

All three suspects were transported to the Linn County Jail.
