Suspect Arrested for Burglary and Kidnapping

On Tuesday, October 27 at 6:14 a.m. police officers were called to 1009 Center Point Road NE for a disturbance.  A male caller indicated that he had been shot by a male subject that entered the residence.  Officers arrived on scene and found a 33-year old male inside the home.  He identified himself as the 911 caller and was found to be uninjured.  He advised officers that a suspect forced entry into the residence and took a 20-year old female from the home.   The female victim was apparently the male victim’s girlfriend and was the suspect’s ex-girlfriend.   Officers found a spent shell casing and damage to the ceiling from a discharged round. 

An attempt to locate was sent out to area law enforcement officers for the suspect and the female victim. Investigators were able to locate the victim in Cedar Rapids around 10 a.m. this morning at her residence.  The specific details of how the victim was able to return safely are part of the ongoing investigation.  The victim sustained injuries as the result of being assaulted by the suspect during the abduction.  

Just before 3 p.m., Cedar Rapids Police officers and Marion Police officers located the suspect in Marion.  There was a short vehicle and foot chase, resulting in the suspect being apprehended behind the United States Post Office, 3800 US-151, Marion. 

The suspect was identified as Nicholas Jauan Hallman, DOB/12-25-1993, age 26.  He was arrested for Kidnapping-2nd Degree, Burglary-1st Degree, Assault Domestic Abuse with Injury, two counts of Going Armed with Intent, two counts of Intimidation with a Weapon, two counts of Carrying Weapons, and Assault While Participating in a Felony. 

Additional charges will be filed by the Marion Police Department regarding the vehicle and foot pursuit that ensued when officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop of the suspect’s vehicle in Marion.
