Attempted Murder Suspect from Wisconsin Apprehended

The Cedar Rapids Police Department and Marshals from the U.S. Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended an attempted murder suspect from Wisconsin in Cedar Rapids this morning.  On Wednesday, February 3, 2021, at 8:39 a.m. Cedar Rapids Police officers and U.S. Marshals arrested Canyon A. Thixton of Portage, Wisconsin at a residence in the 3200 block of Kenrich Drive SW.  The Cedar Rapids Police Department had received information earlier this morning that the wanted suspect was in Cedar Rapids.  

During the arrest, officers and U.S. Marshals found Thixton in possession of a stolen handgun.  The handgun was determined to have been stolen from his victim in Wisconsin.

On Friday, September 11, 2020 at approximately 4:25 a.m. the Portage, Wisconsin Police Department was notified of a violent domestic incident that occurred in the 500 block of W. Cook Street in the City of Portage. Responding officers came into contact with an injured female victim who had been stabbed multiple times.​

According to the Portage Police Department, the initial investigation revealed that the woman had been awakened by her significant other, as she was being violently attacked with a knife. The suspect, believed to be armed with a handgun, then fled the residence on a black Yamaha, YZFR1, motorcycle with Wisconsin registration, 122RW.

The suspect was identified as 37-year old, Canyon A. Thixton of Portage, WI.  According to the Portage Police Department, this was not a random attack on a stranger, however, Canyon Thixton was considered armed and dangerous.  

Thixton was arrested in Cedar Rapids and transported to the Linn County Jail for the Portage Police Department warrant for the charge of Attempted First Degree Intentional Homicide.  The Cedar Rapids Police Department has an ongoing investigation as Thixton may also face local charges.
