Armed Robbery Suspect Apprehended

Cedar Rapids Police officers responded to the report an armed robbery in the 1600 block of C Avenue NW on Thursday, April 8 at 12:20 p.m.  Officers arrived on scene and the 24-year old male victim was able to provide officers with a physical description of the suspect, as well as the suspect’s direction of travel.  The suspect had allegedly entered the victim’s vehicle and had the victim’s wallet in his possession.  The suspect displayed a handgun and fled the scene when confronted by the victim. 

Officers canvassed the area and received subsequent information from a witness standing at 18th Street and B Avenue NW that he saw an individual matching the suspect description running southbound on 19th Street NW.  Officers arrived in the area and located the individual behind Christ Church Presbyterian, 2000 1st Avenue NW.  The individual ran around the front of the building and attempted to hide from officers behind an air-conditioning unit.  Officers were able to apprehend the individual, who matched the description of the suspect, without incident. 

Officers located the victim’s wallet in the suspect’s possession.  Officers also recovered the handgun that was used in the armed robbery, as well as a hooded sweatshirt the suspect had been wearing.  

The suspect, identified as Muzuri Kevin Yenge, DOB/01-01-2003, age 18, of Cedar Rapids, has been arrested for Robbery-1st Degree and Burglary-1st Degree.  He was transported to the Linn County Correctional Center.
