Update on Saturday Shooting in 1500 Block of 1st Avenue East

On Saturday, July 8th at 9:02 p.m. Cedar Rapids police officers were advised of a shooting incident in the 1500 block of 1st Avenue NE behind Sam’s Liquor.

Investigators determined that two individuals, a 32-year old male and a 29-year old male, sustained gunshot wounds.  A 39-year old male, who was with the other two individuals, sustained an injury believed to have been caused by glass shattering.

The victims are believed to have been sitting in a vehicle at the time of the shooting.  Both of the individuals who were wounded sustained what appear to be non-life threatening injuries.

Two of the individuals ran to the nearby Wendy’s restaurant and asked for help.

A fourth individual in the vehicle was not injured.  The fourth individual, identified as Chaz McCann, DOB/03-22-1990, age 27, was arrested for Interference with Official Acts as he was uncooperative with officers attempting to investigate the incident.

A suspect allegedly went up to the vehicle and discharged a gun at the vehicle occupants.

There is no indication that this incident is related to the shooting incident that occurred at Walmart the previous week.

Anyone with information is requested to call Cedar Rapids Police at 319-286-5491 or Linn County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-CS-CRIME.
