Traffic Control for the Glo Run
The All Community Events organization will be holding a run/walk this Friday, September 29, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.  The following streets will be closed for the event:

  • 1st Street from 3rd Avenue SW to 6th Street NW

Traffic Control for the Five Seasons Invitational 
The Cedar Rapids Community School District will be holding a marching band competition, Saturday, September 30, 2017, from 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The following street will be closed during this event:

  • Kurt Warner Way SW from 8th Avenue SW to Veterans Memorial Drive SW

Wright Brothers Blvd SW Eastbound Lane Reduction
Effective Wednesday, September 27, eastbound traffic on Wright Brothers Blvd SW will be reduced to one lane between 18th Street and 6th Street SW, for median landscaping. Work is anticipated to take three days to complete, weather permitting.


1st Avenue Lane Restrictions
Effective Thursday, September 28, 1st Avenue east will experience lane restrictions between 34th Street and 40th Street, for final pavement smoothing. Driveway interruption will be intermittent while the grinding machine drives past. This work is anticipated to take one day to complete, weather permitting. Lane restrictions continue between 27th Street and 34th Street for pavement milling; these restrictions will remain in place for approximately three weeks.


1st Avenue and 32nd Street Intersection Reopens Monday
Effective Monday, September 25, the 32nd Street intersection east of 1st Avenue will reopen to traffic. and the 33rd Street Drive intersection at 1st Avenue will be closed as part of the resurfacing project.


2nd Avenue SE at 1st Street SE Lane Closure
Effective Wednesday, September 20, 2nd Avenue SE at 1st Street SE will be reduced to one-lane westbound direction for machinery placement. Work is expected to take one (1) day. Traffic is advised to seek alternate route.


5th Ave SW from 6th St SW to L St SW Closed
Effective Wednesday, September 20, 5th Avenue SW between 6th Street SW and L Street SW will be closed for storm sewer maintenance. Work is expected to take two (2) days. Traffic should follow posted detour or seek alternate route.


Traffic Control for the 2017 Downtown Farmers’ Market

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – The Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance will be holding The 2017 Downtown Farmer’s Market this Saturday, September 16, 2017, beginning at 7:30 a.m. (set-up time 5:00 a.m.) and ending at Noon (tear down time 1:00 p.m.).

The following streets will be utilized for the event:

  • 3rd Avenue SE from alley between 1st Street SE and 2nd Street SE to 6th Street SE
  • 2nd Street SE from 2nd Avenue SE to 4th Avenue SE
  • 3rd Street SE from 2nd Avenue SE to 4th Avenue SE
  • 5th Street SE from 2nd Avenue SE to 4th Avenue SE

 A “No Parking/Tow Away” zone will be enforced on these streets from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. per Municipal Code Sections 61.094 and 61.094A. Guests of the market are encouraged to use the 4th Avenue, GTC, 5 Seasons or Convention Complex parking ramps located within a few blocks of the Market. For additional parking information, please visit www.parkcedarrapids.com. Parking ramps are handicapped-accessible and market patrons with special needs are encouraged to use those areas.

12th Avenue SE from 2nd Street SE to 1st Street SE Lane Reduction
Effective September 18, 2017, westbound traffic on the 12th Avenue SE will be reduced to one-lane between 2nd Street SE and 1st Street SE for utility work associated with the Flood Control System. Work will take approximately one (1) week, weather permitting. Traffic is advised to seek alternate route.


Johnson Ave NW from Wiley Blvd NW to Jacolyn Dr NW Lane Reduction
Effective September 15, 2017, westbound traffic on Johnson Avenue NW will be reduced to one-lane from Wiley Boulevard NW to Jacolyn Drive NW for utility work.

Work will take approximately two (2) weeks, weather permitting. Traffic may experience delays and is advised to seek alternate route.


Twixt Town Road NE at North Park Place NE
Effective Monday, September 18th, Twixt Town Road NE will be closed at the intersection of North Park Place NE for utility work. Work is expected to take two (2) weeks. Access to all business will be maintained in the area but traffic should seek alternative routes around construction.


Collins Road NE Utility Work Begins
Work will begin this fall to relocate underground private utilities on Collins Road, in advance of roadway improvements scheduled next spring.

Starting the week of September 11, work will begin to relocate utilities between Twixt Town Road and Northland Avenue NE. Work will take place on the frontage roads along Collins Road. Lane restrictions and closures will be in place on frontage roads; all business access will remain open.

Next spring, work will begin to upgrade Collins Road to three through lanes in each direction between Twixt Town Road and the Lindale Mall / Collins Crossing entrance. The project will also include pedestrian accommodations, storm water quality improvements, landscaping, and street trees.


Lane Reduction on Edgewood Road SW 
Edgewood Road SW will be reduced to one lane northbound between 12th Avenue SW and 1st Avenue for sidewalk repair. Work is expected to take five (5) days, weather permitting. 


Blairs Ferry Road between Fountains Drive and North Pine Drive NE Lane Reduction 
Effective September 12, 2017, eastbound traffic on Blairs Ferry Rd NE between Fountains Drive NE and Pine Drive NE will be reduced to one-lane for utility work. The work will take approximately two (2) days, weather permitting.


1st Avenue at 32nd Street SE Closed 
Effective Monday, September 11, 2017, the intersection of 32nd Street SE at 1st Avenue east will be closed as part of the project taking place along 1st Avenue between 31st and 34th Street. Work is expected to take two (2) weeks to complete. Traffic is advised to seek alternate routes.


1st Ave between 13th St SW to 16th St NE Sidewalk Ramp Construction
Effective September 7, construction will begin on the installation of ADA-compliant sidewalk curb ramps along 1st Avenue between 13th Street SW and 16th Street NE.

Crews will begin at 13th St SW on the south side of 1st Ave, moving to the east. They will switch to the north side of 1st Avenue when they arrive at 16th St SE, and will work their way west, back to 13th St NW. Intermittent parking lanes and travel lanes will be restricted while work is taking place. The entire project is anticipated to be completed in one (1) month, weather permitting.


2nd Avenue SE at 1st Street SE Lane Closure
Effective Monday, September 11, 2nd Avenue SE at 1st Street SE will be reduced to one-lane westbound direction. Work is expected to take one (1) day. Traffic is advised to seek alternate route.


51st Street NE at Council St NE Lane Reduction
Effective September 7, 2017, northbound traffic on Council Street NE at 51st Street NE will be reduced to one-lane for signal installation. Work is expected to take four (4) days, weather permitting. Traffic may experience delays.


Mt Vernon Road SE at 23rd Street SE Lane Reduction
Effective Wednesday, September 6, Mt. Vernon Road SE between 23rd Street SE and Knollwood Drive SE will be reduced to one-lane eastbound direction for service line repairs. Work is expected to take two (2) days, weather permitting. Traffic is advised to seek alternate route.


Council St NE between Collins Rd & 42nd St NE Closed
Effective Wednesday, September 6, Council Street NE between Collins Road and 42nd Street NE (across from Noelridge Park) will be closed for sewer maintenance. Work is expected to take two (2) days, weather permitting. Traffic is advised to follow posted detour or seek alternate route.
