City Conducting Minor Flood Stage Activities; Public Impact Minimal

Cedar Rapids, Iowa – June 14, 2018 – The City’s Public Works Department is taking measures to address minor flood stage river levels. The Cedar River is projected to crest tonight at 12.8 feet, which is considered minor flood stage and will have minimal impacts to the general public.

The Public Works Department will proactively protect to the 14 ft river level. Flood response measures include plugging storm sewer drains, stationing pumps if needed, closure of low-lying roads, and placing concrete cylinders over low-lying stormwater inlets to prevent backflow from the river.

Closures related to flood response activity include:

  • Robins Lake Park
  • The Ellis Harbor boat launch
  • Otis Road SW
  • A Street SW
  • Ellis Road west of Edgewood Road
  • If necessary Old River Rd SW

The Public Works Department will continue to monitor river levels and respond as needed.
