Suspect Arrested in Tarrence Newman Homicide Case
The Cedar Rapids Police Department has made an arrest in a November 12, 2017 homicide case.
Rayshaun Dion Friend, DOB/07-04-1989, age 29, of Cedar Rapids, was arrested this morning for Murder in the First Degree, Robbery in the First Degree, and Going Armed With Intent.
On Sunday, November 12, 2017 at 9:44 p.m., officers were dispatched to 1506 D Avenue NE for a disturbance. When officers arrived on scene, a 40-year old male victim, identified as Tarrence Newman, DOB/01-16-1977, was found deceased on the front porch of the residence.
According to a report from the State Medical Examiner’s Office, Newman sustained at least one gunshot wound.
Investigators, in cooperation with the Linn County Attorney’s Office, have been working on this case for the past several months and were able to identify a suspect.
There is still an active, ongoing investigation, so the Police Department is unable to provide further details at this time.
The suspect, Rayshaun Dion Friend, was transported to the Linn County Jail.
