Crestwood Drive Construction Project Launches Monday, May 20
Aiming to improve both the roadway and storm water drainage, Crestwood Drive NW will be closed in stages from Wiley Boulevard to Edgewood Road beginning Monday, May 20.

Construction is scheduled to occur in five stages, starting at Edgewood Road and ending at Wiley Boulevard.

In addition to storm sewer upgrades, the project features roadway removal and replacement, as well as pedestrian improvements that are in line with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The new sidewalk will be from Westgate Drive NW to 38th Street NW on the north side of Crestwood Drive.

The full project should be completed by the end of October 2024.


C Street SW Lane Reduction
Effective Monday, May 20, C Street SW will be reduced to one lane between Handley Drive and Ely Road for utility installation. Flaggers will be present directing traffic, but drivers should expect delays. Work is to occur between the hours of 7 am to 4 pm daily and is expected to take five (5) days.


 

Edgewood Road NW Lane Reduction
Effective Thursday, May 16, northbound traffic on Edgewood Road NW will be reduced to one lane between Crestwood Drive and O Avenue for sewer repairs. Work is expected to take two (2) days.


1st Street SW Closure Effective Today
Effective today, Wednesday, May 15th, 1st Street SW between 8th Avenue and 11th Avenue is closed to all traffic for sanitary sewer installation.  Work is expected to take two (2) weeks. Traffic to follow posted detour, or seek an alternate route. Access to the 8th Avenue bridge over the Cedar River will be maintained during the closure.


C Street SW Northbound Closure
Effective Wednesday, May 15, C Street SW will be closed to northbound traffic between 14th Avenue and 13th Avenue for water service repairs. Work is expected to take five (5) days. Detour to be posted for northbound traffic.


 

 

West Post Road SW Lane Reduction and Intersection Closures
Effective Monday, May 13th, West Post Road SW will be reduced to one lane between Wilson Avenue and Decatur Street for roadway improvements; traffic signals will be present.  In addition, Decatur Street and Wabash Street will be closed at West Post Road.  Wilson Avenue will be closed on both sides of West Post Road.  Detours will be posted.  Work is expected to take approximately one (1) week.


Lane Reductions at Intersection of 1st Avenue E & 1st Street E to Begin Next Week
Beginning Monday, May 6th, lane closures will occur at the intersection of 1st Avenue E and 1st Street E while new traffic signals are installed to replace the temporary signals that were in place during the construction of the flood control system. Work is expected to take approximately five (5) weeks.


Westwood Drive NW Street Improvements to Begin Monday
On Monday, May 6th, prep work will begin for the installation of a new asphalt overlay on Westwood Drive NW between Woodside Drive and Woodland Court. The road will be closed to thru-traffic during prep work, but will transition to a full closure the day of paving operations. Work is expected to take approximately three weeks. 16th Avenue SE Improvements to Begin April 22
The City of Cedar Rapids will begin reconstruction work along 16th Avenue SE on Wednesday, April 22, 2024. The project area includes the 16th Avenue Bridge of Lions, 16th Avenue SE from 2nd Street to 4th Street, and 3rd Street SE east of 16th Avenue.

The project, separated into six phases, will begin with the closure of the 16th Avenue Bridge of Lions on Monday, April 22. Construction will continue in different areas until November. Additionally, a water main improvement project will start at the intersection of 16th Avenue SE and 3rd Street on Wednesday, April 17.

The public is invited to learn about construction timing, lane and road closures, detours, and related impacts during an information meeting to be held Thursday, April 18, 2024 from 4:30–5:30 p.m. at the National Czech and Slovak Museum and Library, 1400 Inspiration Point SW. A 20-minute presentation will begin at 4:30 p.m., with staff available throughout to answer questions from the public.


Overnight Lane Reductions on Highway 30 to Begin Tonight
Beginning tonight, Monday, April 1st, alternating lane reductions will be in place overnight on Highway 30, between Edgewood Road and 6th Street SW, for roadway improvements performed by the Iowa Department of Transportation. Construction work on the ramps at Edgewood Road SW will also occur at times, but all ramps will remain open to traffic at all times. Work is expected to last until mid-June. Walford Road SW Closed to Thru-Traffic Beginning Monday
Beginning Monday, March 25, 2024, Walford Road SW will be closed to through traffic between 6th Street and Earhart Lane for the installation of new pavement, and water main and storm sewer improvements. Access to properties will be maintained during the closure. Work is expected to last until approximately mid-June.


 

Center Point Road NE Closure from H Avenue to J Avenue
Effective Thursday, March 7, Center Point Road NE will be closed to thru-traffic from H Avenue to J Avenue while utility and roadway improvements are underway. This includes the full closure of the intersections at I Avenue and J Avenue. The intersection at H Avenue will remain open. Detours will be posted for through traffic. 1st Street NE Reduced to One Lane Between B Avenue and 1st Avenue E

Effective Wednesday, November 29th, southbound traffic on 1st Street NE will be reduced to one lane between B Avenue and 1st Avenue E for construction of Flood Control System (FCS) infrastructure. Work is expected to last until the spring of 2025. 

FCS construction in this area will better protect the City from a flooding event and includes a pump station between the Tree of Five Seasons sculpture and I-380, a new flood wall from 1st Avenue to I-380, and three flood gates located at E and F Avenue (under I-380) and 2nd Avenue SE.
