Bike to Work Week Activities Kick Off This Week

In celebration of National Bike Month, residents are invited to participate in a variety of bike friendly activities throughout the month of May designed to encourage sustainability, cycling, enhance bike safety education, and continue growing a bike-friendly culture.

Bike to Work Week (May 11–17) offers a variety of events focused on bike education and opportunities to gather with community members who share a love for biking.

Thursday, May 9

Mayor’s Proclamation and Bike Ride | 5:45 p.m.

NewBo City Market, 1100 3rd Street SE

Saturday, May 11

MPO Bike Ride* | 10:00 a.m.
Bever Park, 2700 Bever Avenue SE

Monday, May 13

Pit Stops

Pick up free swag and refreshments at any of the following locations:

Open house at the NEW volunteer-run, non-profit community bike shop. Join group rides departing from Greene Square every half hour between 4:00 and 5:30 p.m.

Wednesday, May 15

Join cyclists in a silent ride in honor of those who have been injured or killed while cycling on public roadways.

Hawkeye Bicycle Association and Linn County Trails Association hands-on event providing safety checks and riding skills to young cyclists.

Ride the Districts Bike Ride

All are welcome to join a bike ride showcasing new and upcoming bicycle infrastructure in Cedar Rapids. This guided journey will begin and end at Prairie Park Fishery Trailhead. The bike ride will feature upcoming and recent projects like the InterUrban Trail and updates from LAMBA on singletrack trails. This 15-mile ride includes stops along the way to discuss these projects and includes a stop at Bever Park for refreshments. Please note that the Sac & Fox Trail is unpaved, so bikes with wider tires are strongly encouraged for this ride. Register online at CityofCR.com/BikeCR.
