The Mechanical Board of Appeals hears appeals for interpretations of the Mechanical Code made by City inspectors. The Board also considers the use of alternate materials and methods of construction for mechanical work and makes recommendations to the City Council for improving the code.
Meeting Information
The Board usually meets three or four times a year for one to two hours. The number of appeals filed will determine meeting frequency.

Application Fees
Payment must be made when the appeal application is filed; each section violation is considered a separate appeal (effective April 1, 2003, by Resolution No. 0641-03-03):
- All types of uses or structures - $75
- Successive applications - $10
APPLICATION TO APPEAL
Membership
The Board shall consist of five (5) members appointed by the Mayor and whose place of business, residence, or work is located in the City of Cedar Rapids. All members of the Board must have been engaged in the profession of their primary interest for a period of at least five (5) years in the City of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, immediately prior to their appointment. The membership shall be comprised of one licensed-insured duct air heating-cooling contractor, one licensed-insured hydronic heating-cooling contractor, one licensed-insured refrigeration contractor, one licensed practicing mechanical engineer, and one licensed practicing architect.
