Meet the Development Services Director

Bill Micheel
Economic & Development Services Director
Bill Micheel became the Economic & Development Services Director in 2023 and is responsible for overseeing the review of facilities and land development in Cedar Rapids. The Department provides case management for projects beginning with the developer’s concept and ending with completion and occupancy of the development.
Before returning to the City, Micheel worked as Lead Planner at WSP USA, a multinational engineering-and-transportation -planning and -consulting firm. Prior to his work there, Micheel served the City of Cedar Rapids as Assistant Director of the Community Development Department and as Manager of the Corridor Metropolitan Planning Organization.
Micheel has extensive experience in long-range and current planning, zoning administration, and economic and policy development. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Forest Management at Iowa State University and his Master of Science in Urban and Regional Planning, Land Use and Environmental Planning, and Economic Development from the University of Iowa. Micheel is certified by the American Institute of Certified Planners.
