Fire Station 3
Fire Station 3 is located at 3520 Crestwood Drive NW. Construction began on the fire station on June 12, 2013 and firefighters moved into the fire station on December 27, 2013. With population on the west side of Cedar Rapids growing by over 20,000 citizens over the past 15 years, a new neighborhood fire station became a priority. In fact, firefighters from Fire Station 8, located at 100 Wiley Boulevard SW, were usually the first-in fire engine company to calls west of 18th Street NW between O Avenue NW and 33rd Avenue SW. Over the past several years, nearly one-fifth of all incidents in the City have originated in this district. Fire Station 3 provides additional coverage and supports future growth.
With the construction of the Central Fire Station at 713 1st Avenue SE, in close proximity to the previous Fire Station 3 at 1424 B Avenue NE, the City had an opportunity to realign fire station and improve response coverage.
The total project cost for Fire Station 3 was $2.8 million, with $1.6 million from a state I-JOBS Grant and $1.2 million from City funds.
