The Cedar Rapids Police Department is committed to identifying, arresting and prosecuting those individuals who have thus far eluded arrest for the crime of murder.
The Cedar Rapids Police Department currently has two volunteer investigators who work exclusively on unsolved homicides. These investigators work closely with other investigators from both the Cedar Rapids Police Department and other law enforcement agencies. If you have any information about an unsolved homicide that has occurred within the City of Cedar Rapids, please contact the Cold Case Unit.
The current investigator assigned to the Cold Case Unit is J.D. Smith, a retired Agent for the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
