Construction Update: March 14, 2024
Construction is set to begin on 35th Street NE, between Oakland Road and F Avenue on Monday, March 18th. Improvements will include concrete pavement reconstruction, new sidewalks on both sides of the street, driveway replacements, new storm sewer installation, replacement of sanitary sewer from Eastern Avenue to just short of G Avenue, new street lighting, and pavement markings including a center line and on-street parking/“urban shoulder” lines.
Construction is scheduled to occur in six (6) stages. See the image below.
Description of Map Image:
- Stage 1 is divided into three phases: A, B, and C.
- Stage 1A begins about a half block west of Eastern Avenue NE and runs through just east of the Eastern Avenue NE intersection.
- Stage 1B begins where Stage 1A ends, just east of the Eastern Avenue NE intersection, and ends just east of the Collins Aerospace parking lot.
- Stage 1C begins where Stage 1B ends, just east of the Collins Aerospace parking lot, and ends just past the F Avenue NE intersection.
- Stage 1 work is scheduled for 2024.
- Stage 1A work will begin on March 18, including the full closure of 35th Street NE and Eastern Avenue/Zach Johnson Drive intersection.
- Stage 2 work is scheduled for 2025 and will also include three subphases.
The project is expected to be complete at the end of 2025, with some possible wrap-up work in Spring 2026.
Please note: 35th Street will be closed to through traffic for the project's duration. Access will be maintained to residents within each stage for as long as possible during utility work. Full closures at each stage will be required for the roadway work.
