66th Avenue SW from Locust Road to 6th Street

Thank you for your patience. The 66th Avenue SW from Locust Road to 6th Street project was completed on August 18, 2023 – approximately 6 weeks ahead of schedule!

This project included concrete pavement reconstruction, sidewalk extension on the north side of the street, and drainage improvements.

The 66th Avenue SW corridor has been improved over the past several years including:

  • 2016 – Water main and culvert replacement from Locust Road to 6th Street
  • 2021 – Paving and utility improvements from CRANDIC railroad to 8th Street
  • 2023 – Paving and utility improvements from Locust Road to CRANDIC railroad and from 8th Street to 6th Street

Because 66th Avenue is an industrial area with heavy truck traffic, construction staging was incredibly complex. Both phases of the roadway project were designed with multiple road closures, utilizing temporary rock accesses to maintain truck access to all businesses at all times. Thanks to good communication by the contractor, Eastern Iowa Excavating & Concrete, LLC, both roadway projects were completed ahead of schedule and under budget.
