January 24, 2021

On Saturday, January 23, 2020, at 3:11 p.m. a Cedar Rapids Police officer working at Walmart, 3601 29th Avenue SW, was alerted to a disturbance involving two individuals arguing and running after each other inside the store.  The officer made contact with one of the individuals involved in the parking lot outside of the store.  As the officer was speaking with the individual, the other individual involved, later identified as Timothy Dwayne Christmas, DOB/01-21-2003, age 18, approached and attempted to get into a fight with the individual that the officer was speaking with.  The officer called for additional police backup and was able to keep the two separated.

Christmas walked away from the area and back into the store.  Moments later, additional officers arrived on scene and went to locate Timothy Christmas.  As officers entered the store, a Walmart employee indicated that he had been punched in the face by Timothy Christmas, who was now yelling inside the store.  Officers made contact with Timothy Christmas and attempted to arrest him for the assault, but he resisted arrest and assaulted several officers attempting to take him into custody.  One of the officers was bitten by Timothy Christmas and had a serious hand injury.

Christmas was arrested for Assault on a Police Officer Causing Injury, two counts of Assault on a Police Officer, Assault, and Interference with Official Acts.

Kevett’a Jazonna McPhan, DOB/06-17-1983, age 37, the offender’s mother, also became involved in the incident and was arrested for Assault on a Police Officer and Interference with Official Acts.
