Suspect Arrested after Police Pursuit from Kennedy High School

On Friday, April 16 at 10:32 a.m. the School Resource Officer at Kennedy High School, 4545 Wenig Road NE, was alerted by students of a suspicious subject in the south parking lot.  The suspect, described as an older white male in a white Buick, was allegedly approaching students in the parking lot and offering money for students to get into his vehicle. 

The School Resource Officer went into the parking lot to speak with the individual who was in the driver’s seat of the Buick.  Upon seeing the officer and the squad car, the suspect took off at a high rate of speed through the parking lot and exited westbound on 42nd Street NE.  The officer pursued the suspect along 42nd Street NE and then through several northeast side neighborhoods until the pursuit concluded at a dead end in the 2200 block of Shady Oaks Court NE. 

The suspect, identified as Douglas Frederick Kay, DOB/05-20-1957, age 63, was arrested for Eluding, Speeding, and two counts of Failure to Obey Traffic Control Device.  He was transported to the Linn County Correctional Center. 

There is an ongoing investigation into this incident.
