Hit-and-Run Motorcycle Accident on April 4, 2021

The Cedar Rapids Police Department has an ongoing investigation into a hit-and-run accident that occurred on Sunday, April 4, 2021.  Police officers were dispatched to 7th Street and 2nd Avenue SW at 4:07 p.m. for an accident involving a motorcycle who was struck by a red sport utility vehicle, believed to be a 2013-2017 red Chevrolet Traverse. 

The motorcycle operator, Andrew Sorenson, age 63, sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized.  Sorenson was operating a 2003 Harley-Davidson.  A witness indicated that the SUV ran into the back of the motorcycle and fled the scene.  The SUV appears to have intentionally struck the motorcycle. 

There have been local media stories about this incident, however there has not been any credible leads developed at this time.  The Police Department is asking the public to review surveillance video from the accident.  Video is posted on the Cedar Rapids Police Department Facebook page at www.facebook.com/cedarrapidspolicedepartment
