Shooting Incident in the 3700 Block of Blairs Ferry Road NE

On Monday, May 3, 2021 at 10:20 a.m. the City’s Joint Communications Center received a report of shots fired in the 3700 block of Blairs Ferry Road NE.  The preliminary report indicated gunshots were discharged from a vehicle at a victim who was walking in the area.  

Witnesses were able to obtain a description of the suspect vehicle.  Shortly thereafter, a Hiawatha Police Department officer stopped the suspect vehicle in front of Auto Zone, 2935 Blairs Ferry Road NE.  Cedar Rapids Police officers arrived and law enforcement officers were able to take the driver into custody.  This individual is currently being detained, pending the investigation.  

Around 10:30 a.m. the shooting victim, identified as Terrell Howard Taylor, DOB/09-03-1990, age 30, presented at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s Hospital.  He had non-life threatening injuries, received medical treatment, and was discharged into the custody of law enforcement because he had a valid warrant for Robbery-2nd Degree through the Iowa City Police Department.  Taylor has been transported to the Linn County Correctional Center. 

There is an active, ongoing investigation.  Based on preliminary information, this appears to be a targeted incident.
