Art Project Offers Healing, Reflection After Derecho

August 6, 2021

The community is invited to join with friends, family, and neighbors for a special art event that brings together creativity and mental health awareness.

Residents can participate in a simple art project together and share memories, reflections, and emotions tied to the August 10, 2020 derecho. If desired, residents can also speak with representatives from Foundation 2, Tanager Place and the Abbe Center, who will have mental health professionals and resource and referral coordinators on hand to speak informally with residents or answer any questions about mental health resources available in the community for both adults and children; resource sheets will also be available for anyone interested.

Community members can participate with a group or individually, and will be given the opportunity to paint a design of their choosing on a circular slice of wood recovered from trees lost in the derecho. Residents can take their artwork home; the wood, paintbrushes, and paint will be provided free of charge.

No registration is required, residents can stop by anytime for conversation or to participate in the art project.
