Tree Planting at Hoover School for Arbor Day

Cedar Rapids, IA – April 28, 2022 – The Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Department will observe Arbor Day by planting trees at Hoover School, 4141 Johnson Avenue NW, with Hoover students on Friday, April 29 from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. The ceremony will include remarks by representatives from Hoover School and Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation. Mayor Pro-Tempore Ann Poe will read the Arbor Day proclamation at 10:55 a.m., followed by teaching modules for the students led by staffs from Cedar Rapids Forestry and Linn County Conservation.

“Cedar Rapids is proud to be a Tree City USA,” said Hashim Taylor, Director of Parks & Recreation. “This Arbor Day, we celebrate the ReLeaf Cedar Rapids plan and the City’s commitment to rebuilding the urban tree canopy for future generations.”

The City of Cedar Rapids received its 44th Tree City USA Award for 2021. Cedar Rapids has received this award for more consecutive years than any other city in the state. Cities that demonstrate dedication to the importance of trees in their communities are eligible for this award presented by the Arbor Day Foundation and Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
