Intersection of Wilson Ave. and Bowling St. to be closed for construction beginning June 6

June 4, 2024

Aiming to finish intersection improvements by the end of July, the intersection of Wilson Avenue and Bowling Street is set to be closed beginning Thursday, June 6.

The work is part of the Bowling Street SW Trail project. Along with converting the intersection to a roundabout, the project features new street lighting, storm sewer, and water main replacement, as well as new trail construction.

By closing the entire intersection, crews will be able to shorten how long traffic and nearby businesses will be affected. Detours for those businesses will be posted, as well as detours for through traffic, which includes use of C Street SW and 41st Street SW for quick access north and south of the construction work.

The finished intersection is scheduled to reopen at the end of July.

The Bowling Street SW Trail project features a number of improvements to the neighborhood south of Wilson Avenue. Those include:

  • Improvements to the recreational trail on the west side of Bowling Street
  • Property improvements along the trail
  • Reconstructed sidewalks on both sides of Bowling Street, between 20th Avenue and C Avenue
  • Conversion of the Wilson Avenue SW & Bowling Street intersection to a single-lane roundabout
  • ADA accessibility improvements
  • Associated project work, including utilities and landscaping enhancements to improve infrastructure and beautify surroundings

More information about the project can be found here.
