A nuisance property is defined as a property within Cedar Rapids city limits where City personnel and police officers have conducted multiple service calls to clean up debris, investigate illegal activity or impose corrective action for noncompliance with City ordinances. Owners of nuisance properties will be held accountable for these nuisances. They will be required to address, eliminate, abate or remove the nuisance condition or charged fees to meet the requirements.
In conjunction with this new program, changes are being made to the current housing code registration program. These changes will include a requirement for rental property owners to perform background checks on potential tenants. Landlords will also be required to take part in a training program sponsored by various City departments.
