Who We Serve

What are biosolids?

Biosolids are generated during the wastewater treatment process. Biosolids are a nutrient rich material that has value as a fertilizer and soil conditioner to area farmers.

There is water coming up my basement floor drain.  What should I do?

You have a basement backup.  You can call the Sewer Maintenance department at (319) 286-5856 or a plumber or drain cleaning service.  If the backup is caused by a blockage in the City’s main, Sewer Maintenance will remove the blockage.  If the backup is in the private line you are responsible for removing the blockage.

What do I do with my unused medicine?

Check the FDA website to see if the medication is suitable to go down the drain.  If not, you can check for drug take-back programs or dispose of in the trash.

What do I do with my used motor oil or other household chemicals?

Do not pour used oil down the drain. Used oil can be recycled at a number of local automobile repair shops. Click here for a list of common household chemicals and methods of disposal. You can also contact CRWPC or Cedar Rapids/Linn County Solid Waste Agency if you have a question about what can go down the drain.

How many gallons does CRWPCF treat per day?

During normal dry weather conditions the average flow is around 40-45 million gallons per day.
