Sanitary Sewer
The sanitary sewer system begins with a privately owned pipe that connects the wastewater from homes, businesses and industries City’s sewer system. The sanitary sewer system conveys the wastewater to the Water Pollution Control Facilities for treatment. After treatment, the water is discharged to the Cedar River.

Storm Sewer
The storm sewer system is made up of sewers, ditches, creeks and streams. It conveys stormwater runoff as well as surface water to receiving creeks and streams, and ultimately, the Cedar River. It is important to keep in mind that stormwater receives no treatment in Cedar Rapids.
