Junior Golf Instructional Programs Partner

May 21, 2019

The Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Department’s golf division and the Cedar Rapids Optimist Club have formed a partnership to encourage more junior golfers to learn, play and enjoy the game of golf. Through the partnership, the organizations will offer Cedar Rapids/Optimist Junior Golf Academy 1.0 for beginning juniors ages 5-17. The program includes professional instruction by PGA professionals and staff, practice balls, greens fees, games, and contests. Clinics cover basic swing fundamentals and motor skill development, chipping and pitching, putting, safety, etiquette, rules, and values of the game. The program meets for five weeks, at Twin Pines, starting on June 11. Registration information is available at playcedarrapidsgolf.com.

In addition, the Cedar Rapids Optimist Junior Golf Association will remain unchanged and continue to offer tournaments for juniors at area golf courses through the summer. The junior tournament program, CROJGA, is for boys and girls, ages 8 to 18. A 2019 membership fee of $10 entitles each junior golfer to a microfiber golf towel, golf bag tag and two medium buckets of driving range balls at Cedar Rapids municipal courses. In addition, there is a $5 green fee to be paid at each event. Trophies are awarded in each of 8 divisions. More information is available at CROJGA.org or CROJGA@yahoo.com. CROJGA’s emphasis is on pace of play, etiquette, courtesy, sportsmanship, respect and integrity in golf. The Cedar Rapids Optimist Junior Golf Association (CROJGA) is a community project of the Tuesday Noon Optimist Club of Cedar Rapids.  The Optimist Club provides volunteers for CROJGA 1.0.
