The shooting victim who was declared deceased at Mercy Medical Center early Sunday morning has been identified as Jayson Lee Jones, DOB/08-05-1999, age 21, of Cedar Rapids.
The Police Department continues to actively investigate this case and has determined the shooting incident took place at a residence at 818 11th Avenue SE. The circumstances of the shooting remain part of the investigation.

On Sunday, January 3, 2021 at 2:16 a.m. the Cedar Rapids Police Department was notified of a male shooting victim who arrived by private vehicle at Mercy Medical Center. Shortly after officers arrived at the hospital, the victim was pronounced deceased.
There is an active investigation at this time. The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of family members.
Investigators are working to determine the location of where the incident occurred and other circumstances of the shooting.
