Suspect Arrested Following Shots Fired Incident

On Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at 9:00 p.m. the City’s Joint Communications Center received multiple calls reporting shots fired in the area of Mound Farm Drive and 32nd Street NE. 

Police officers arrived and spoke to a victim who was apparently shot at after confronting an individual knocking over trash cans along 32nd Street NE. No one was injured and no damaged property was located. 

Based on information from the victim and other witnesses, officers detained a 20-year old male who was found to be in possession of a stolen handgun. The suspect also appeared to be intoxicated and was found in possession of marijuana. A shell casing matching the caliber of the handgun was also located on the scene in the 1100 block of 32nd Street NE. 

The suspect was identified as Jachai Dominique Alexander Crafton, DOB/12-19-2000, age 20, of Cedar Rapids. He was arrested for Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon, Trafficking in Stolen Weapons, Carrying Weapons, Possession or Carrying Firearms While Under the Influence, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Public Intoxication.
