Register Now for Fall Parks and Recreation Programs

Cedar Rapids, IA – August 2, 2023 – The Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation Department’s fall program registration began online Monday, July 31. Registrations are now being accepted online; by phone, 319-286-5566; or in person, during regular business hours, at the Northwest Recreation Center, 1340 11th Street NW, or the City Services Center, 500 15th Avenue SW. Play CR, the recreation program guide for all ages and abilities, is available online at CRREC.org. All Cedar Rapids, Hiawatha and Robins residents will receive the guide in the mail the week of August 7. Play CR starts on page 25 of Our CR, the City of Cedar Rapids’ quarterly magazine.

A free open house will be held Wednesday, October 4, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. to introduce the department’s new dance instructor, Faythe Kubik. Faythe is offering four classes for adults this fall: Line Dancing: Fun for All! Wonderful Rock Sway, Let’s Review and Do Some New – Swing! You Gotta Bachata! 

Also new this fall are activities for families: Fall Family NERF, Fall Pollinator Fun, activities for gardeners: Garden Stepping Stones, End of the Garden Season, Attracting Birds to the Garden, Winter Seed Sowing, activities for teens and adults: Bird Watching for Beginners, Let’s Bake Bread, Water Bath Canning, History Mystery: Linn County School House Tour, History Mystery: Spooky Cemetery Tour, Beyond Genealogy: Researching and Understanding Your Family History, Curate Your Life: Managing Your Stuff, Preserving Your Past: Recording Oral Histories, Tax Facts at a Glance, Pound, sports for all ages: Tiny Tees T-Ball, Adult Kickball League, Learning Lacrosse, Super Kickers Soccer, and an expanded Special Populations program with many new classes and opportunities.

Fall programs at Northwest Recreation Center include adult and youth basketball, art, drop-in cards and pickleball, karate, Kyudo Renmei, Special Populations activities and sports, toddler/preschool activities, volleyball, and open gyms. 

Popular fall events are back including the Fall Leaf Tour, Safe Halloween and Harvest Hayrack Nights at Ushers Ferry Historic Village, Movie Night and County Fair at Old MacDonald’s Farm, Friday Night Spooky Swim and swim lessons at Bender Pool; golf at the City’s three courses and mini golf at Mini Pines; and football, soccer, and adult softball.

Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation offers a low-income assistance program, RecAssist, for individuals and families with financial need. The program offers a discount on swim passes and recreation programs to those who qualify. Learn more and apply at CityofCR.com/RecAssist.
