City Celebrates 100 Miles of Trails in Cedar Rapids with Ribbon Cutting

October 12, 2023

The City of Cedar Rapids will celebrate completing 100 miles of trails and bikeways in Cedar Rapids with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, October 19, at 3:30 p.m. The event will kick off with a commemorative bike ride from Cherry Hill Park to Cherokee Park and back. At 4 p.m., directly after the bike ride, there will be a brief presentation from the City, Linn County Trails Association, and the Corridor Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), followed by a ribbon cutting at Sharon Lane NW Trailhead.

The 100 miles of trails include nearly 47 miles of off-street paths and about 50 miles of on-street bikeways throughout the City, including the Cedar Valley Nature Trail which is part of the American Discovery Trail and Great American Rail Trail. The Great American Rail Trail is the nation’s first cross-country multiuse trail, stretching more than 3,700 miles between Washington, D.C., and Washington State.
