Citizen Review Board Seeks Resident Input

The Cedar Rapids Citizen Review Board (CRB) serves the community by ensuring fair and professional law enforcement that is constitutional, effective, and responsive to the standards, values, and needs of those to be served. The CRB is seeking resident input to help guide their work.

Residents can share feedback on an interactive, public "Idea Wall." Questions on the virtual wall will rotate every two weeks throughout the months of April and May. Community members can leave their thoughts and see comments as they are shared.

The feedback will help the CRB:

• Understand the community's perspectives regarding the Cedar Rapids Police Department, and
• Prioritize focus areas for the CRB's long-term plan.

The questions posted include:

• 5/16/22 — The Citizen Review Board (CRB) has the ability to look at the policies and procedures of the Cedar Rapids Police Department (CRPD) and make recommendations. What, if any, policies do you think the CRB should be reviewing? If you do not know much about CRPD policies and procedures, would you like to learn more about them? For example, filing a complaint, looking for assistance, requesting accommodation, requesting a report, etc.
• 5/2/22 — The community's thoughts and perceptions of the Cedar Rapids Police Department are important to the work of the CRB. What are your feelings about the CRPD, and, what, if anything, would help improve negative perceptions that you or other members of the community might have of the CRPD?

   

• 4/19/22 — What impact do you hope the Citizen Review Board will have on the Cedar Rapids Community?
• 4/5/22 — One of the duties of the Citizen Review Board is to review policies and procedures of the Cedar Rapids Police Department and make recommendations. As the CRB makes recommendations to the CRPD, what is the best way to share that with the public?
